Two years ago, when the City of Stuart advertised a long-term lease for the city-owned landfill property, our company envisioned a new corporate home for ourselves and an opportunity to lay claim to a new environmental future.

Our " Eco Center" will be configured on a 2.8 acre site located on Monterey Road across from the Monterey Triangle. The site offers a high elevation making our project very visible from afar. Through events, press, the internet, and other media outlets we intend for The Eco Center to shine as a beacon for green building practices, and a place where fresh practices are created and implemented.The United States Green Building Council's 2010 initiative called for companies to focus their green building practices on renovating existing structures over new construction. We agree with that priority.  We will begin with the existing golf club facility on the site and renovate and retrofit that structure into a 7,000 square foot new home for Ocean Gate.

Ben Herd, LEED AP, and Senior Project Manager for Ocean Gate is the team leader. The Design team is composed of a talented group of local professionals. The team has met four times to strategize the 73 LEED Points needed to make our certification goal; and we are on track to achieve the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Gold project certification, and open in the summer of 2010.

We have selected a group of local professionals, because at the end of the day, we wished this project to be for the benefit of the local community and built by the local community. The Center will be more than an office building for a local contractor. As the first LEED project in the City of Stuart, and Martin County, Florida we want to create a resource center and showcase for what is possible.  The construction will be captured on live feeds from this website. The website will provide a means to broadcast to the local community and beyond our activities as we gather our team and make history. We want to fire the imagination and get people talking and thinking about their structures and future.
